Search Chaves County Traffic Records
New Mexico Case Lookup is the statewide court-data channel for many traffic cases, especially Magistrate Court and DWI-related searches. It can search by name, case number, or DWI full name. It does not provide public document images, and municipal coverage is limited. Ordinary municipal traffic citations may require direct contact with the municipal court named on the citation.
- Read the citation and identify whether it names Magistrate Court, Roswell Municipal Court, or another municipal court.
- Use Case Lookup when the case is likely in District or Magistrate Court, or when DWI search is relevant.
- For Roswell city-limit tickets, contact Roswell Municipal Court or use its traffic citation instructions.
- For crash records, use Roswell P2C crash reports because those are police records, not court files.
- For insurance, employment, or license history, buy the separate MVD driver history if needed.
The Roswell traffic citation page explains local payment handling for many municipal citations.
Use that source for Roswell Municipal Court payment context, not for state driver history or countywide warrant clearance.
Chaves County Traffic Courts
Traffic venue in Chaves County depends on where the stop, citation, or alleged violation occurred and which agency issued it. Magistrate Court handles many state traffic, DWI, misdemeanor, and preliminary matters. Roswell Municipal Court handles traffic offenses inside Roswell city limits and violations of adopted city ordinances. Dexter, Hagerman, and Lake Arthur municipal courts may hold local ordinance or traffic matters in their towns.

Chaves County Traffic Record Fields
A court traffic record is the court's case file or docket data for a citation. It can differ from a police crash report and from the driver's MVD history. New Mexico Case Lookup may show court type, location, case category, case number, parties, docket events, hearing date filters, and case activity. Roswell Municipal Court can hold municipal citation data that is not fully displayed in the statewide public portal.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Citation or case number | The court or ticket identifier used to locate the traffic case. |
| Court location | Magistrate, Municipal, or District Court location tied to the case. |
| Charge | The traffic offense or DWI-related charge filed in court. |
| Court date | Hearing, arraignment, or appearance setting where available. |
| Plea or disposition | The case outcome, payment path, dismissal, plea, or other resolution when entered. |
| Fine or fee activity | Amounts owed or paid where the court record exposes financial events. |
| Warrant or FTA activity | Failure-to-appear or failure-to-comply events when entered in the case. |
Chaves County Citation Lookup
Case Lookup and Roswell P2C use different field models. Case Lookup is for court data. P2C crash reports are police records. The MVD online driver history requires personal identifying data and payment. Do not enter a citation into a driver-history page expecting pleadings, notices, or court documents.
| Portal | Fields | Format Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Case Lookup name search | Name, driver license, DL state, date of birth, court type, court location, case category, filing or hearing date range | Name format is Last First Middle; traffic can use court type and Chaves location filters. |
| Case Lookup case number | Court Type, Court Location, Case Category, Case Number | Chaves District location is 504 - ROSWELL; Magistrate is 7 - ROSWELL; Roswell Municipal observed as 117 - ROSWELL. |
| Case Lookup DWI tab | Full Name Search, Results count | DWI Search has separate results options and uses full name. |
| Roswell P2C crash reports | First Name, Last Name, Drivers License, Drivers License State, Date Occured, Accident Number, Insurance Policy # | The portal label uses "Date Occured"; crash records are not traffic court records. |
| MVD driver history | Date of birth, last six SSN digits, 9-digit license number, email, credit card | Online record covers the past 3 years and can be retrieved for 30 days after purchase. |
The Roswell P2C crash report search is useful for police crash records connected to traffic events.
A crash report may help with insurance or police-record needs, while the citation case itself still belongs with the court.
Pay Chaves County Traffic Tickets
Roswell Municipal Court says most citations can be paid at the Municipal Court clerk window. Bring the citation. Accepted payment methods on the Roswell traffic page include check, cash, money order, credit card, and debit card. The same page gives an important warning: if a person chooses penalty assessment and pays by mail, online, or in person, the plea cannot be changed.
New Mexico MVD traffic ticket guidance says the ticket controls the next step. If the Penalty Assessment box is checked, pay by the options on the ticket. If Court Appearance or Traffic Arraignment is checked, appear in the court listed by the citation date. Failure to appear can lead to a bench warrant and license-renewal suspension.
Before paying: Confirm whether payment is a plea choice and whether the ticket requires court appearance instead of penalty assessment.
Court Traffic vs Driver Records
The court traffic record and the MVD driver history are different files. A court record is about the citation case: court, charge, hearing, plea, disposition, fine, and warrants or failure-to-appear activity. The driver history is a state licensing record used for driving status, insurance, employment, and conviction history through the MVD service.
| Item | Court Traffic Record | MVD Driver History Record |
|---|---|---|
| Held by | Magistrate Court, Municipal Court, or District Court on appeal | New Mexico MVD |
| Shows | Citation/case number, charge, court date, plea/disposition, fines, warrants/FTA, court actions | Official driver history and license events for the past 3 years through online service |
| Search | Case Lookup, court clerk, municipal court, or P2C for police/crash records | Secure MVD driver history service |
| Documents | Court clerk or re:SearchNM where allowed | MVD online record output |
| Fees | Court copy/payment fees vary by court | Non-certified $6.63; certified $9.99 |
| Required info | Name, case, citation, or court details | DOB, last 6 SSN digits, license number, email, credit card |
The New Mexico online driver history service is the source for the paid driver-history record.
Use MVD records for license-history needs, not to replace the court citation file or municipal court contact.
New Mexico Driver Data
The MVD driver-history page requires Chrome, Edge, or Safari and asks for date of birth, last six digits of Social Security number, nine-digit driver license number, valid email, and a credit card. If no record is found, MVD says to contact 888-683-4636 to make sure the Social Security number is on file. Purchased online records can be retrieved for 30 days.
The MVD driver and vehicle data access page is a separate state-record route for broader driver and vehicle data access.
That state agency path should not be confused with the Roswell Municipal Court clerk window or the Chaves Magistrate Court record email.
Chaves County DWI Records
DWI sits at the traffic and criminal boundary in New Mexico. Magistrate Court handles DWI/DUI and other traffic violations, while District Court can become involved with felony-level matters, appeals, or related criminal proceedings. Case Lookup has a separate DWI Search tab that uses full name and a results-count dropdown.
For the full criminal case path after an arrest or charge, use the Chaves County criminal court records page rather than relying only on a traffic payment screen. A DWI matter can involve bond, conditions of release, court appearances, plea, sentence, probation, and driver-license consequences.
Traffic Police Records
Traffic-related police records may appear in Roswell P2C. The Daily Bulletin type values include Arrests, Citations/Summons, Incidents, and Traffic Accidents. Those records can help when a person knows the event date, but they are not the court file. The city also announced a Roswell Police Department app with reporting, tips, phone and email contact, department news, safety tips, crime statistics, sex-offender lookup, agency links, and recruitment information.
The Roswell Police app announcement is one manifest source for traffic-adjacent police access.
The city app is useful for Roswell police interaction, but court dates, pleas, and dispositions still come from the court.
The Roswell Police Department iOS app listing identifies the app as a free City of Roswell utility.
No official direct Google Play URL was located in the research, although the city says the app is available from Google Play.
Public Chaves Traffic Records
Public access follows the same New Mexico court-record limits that apply to other case types. Judiciary IPRA is for New Mexico Courts records, while city or county police records use the proper city or county public-records channel. Rule 1-079 NMRA limits protected identifiers and governs court-record inspection and sealing. Case Lookup also warns against bulk or multiple-record downloading under NMSA 1978 Sec. 14-3-15.1.
Municipal traffic records can be especially source-specific. Roswell Municipal Court has a direct records contact through the city IPRA materials, and Roswell city records can also route through NextRequest. For court questions, direct municipal court contact is usually clearer than a broad city request.
Chaves County Traffic Fees
The research did not identify a single Chaves County traffic-record fee table covering every court and citation type. Use the court that holds the case for payment, copy, and certification details. The Fifth Judicial District fee schedule gives useful copy fees for District and Magistrate Court records, while MVD lists separate driver-history charges.
| Item | Amount or Rule |
|---|---|
| District Court photocopy | $0.35/page |
| District Court certification | $1.50/seal |
| Magistrate Court photocopies | $0.50/page, certified or uncertified |
| Magistrate electronic copy/email | $1 |
| MVD non-certified driver history | $6.63 |
| MVD certified driver history | $9.99 |
Note: Roswell Municipal citation payments depend on the ticket and court instructions; verify amount and plea effect before paying.
